People v. Macbeth
April 22, 2008
Ah, Shakespeare. A master of the English language and theatre. One of his most famous works is the tale of Macbeth and his ambition to be King of Scotland. Yes, yes, we all have to read it in high school. Yes, yes, light/dark imagery and change of character. And don’t you dare forget the dramatic irony! Shakespeare LOVES dramatic irony.
Whether or not you’ve read the play isn’t actually that important. All you need to know is that in the play, Macbeth kills some people and has some people killed. If you didn’t know this and I accidentally spoiled it for you, deal with it fool. It happens like right away. You also need to know that Macbeth kind of freaks out because of the killing.
Here’s the good part. The final project for Macbeth isn’t an essay or a collage or any other silly thing like that. Get ready for it: it’s Macbeth’s court hearing. I know, it’s awesome. There are two Honors English 3 classes. One class will be the defense team and the other is the prosecution. It’s clear that Macbeth did commit murder and order others to murder. However, it’s up to the defense to prove Macbeth innocent on the grounds of insanity.
I get to be Phoenix Wright (or Apollo Justice or Mia Fey) or Miles Edgeworth (or Franziska von Karma or Godot or Klavier Gavin)1.
Q: Is this…
A. Awesome
B. Or what
CHOICE A TIMES INFINITY.
1End my ridiculously geeky Phoenix Wright/Apollo Justice reference.

Oh wow! That sounds awesome!! I quite like The Scottish Play (I’m a theatre-nerd, and as such, superstitious even when not in a theatre), and that is an excellent idea for a final project!!

Wish I could say the same about my Hamlet project.
It sounds like oodles of fun though, and even though I didn’t get the references, I’m still happy for you!
I hope you have lots of fun doing it, as I would’ve had I had your teacher.

I played Phoenix Wright for the first time last night, so I fully comprehend and support your answer of A. Times infinity

That’s a great final project, much better than an essay or collage!

Phoenix Wright is ridiculously awesome and I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I did! I’m up the 3rd Ace Attorney game and it’s still heaps of fun.

We studied Shakespeare in my AP English class during high school as well. Only we studied Hamlet. Our project was to write our own modern day Hamlet. As a class, we wrote the play, cast the characters, and produced it. It was so much fun; I only wish I kept a copy of the tape!

If I liked Shakespeare I’d think this was ridiculously fun, haha.

Gosh, I would’ve loved to do something like that last year when we studied every play by Shakespeare. Those are the kind of things I learn from, not stupid book work.
I hope you have fun!

That’s certainly an interesting spin on a typical boring English project. I’d guess that it would be fairly easy to argue either side. Although, if I remember the story correctly… I think it would be more accurate to say that Macbeth went crazy AFTER the murders. But what do I know, it’s been years since my last HS English class.

“deal with it, fool”
…XDDDDDDDD
You’re so infinitely lucky. God, Shakespeare consisted of boring reading out loud (like we were little kids and don’t know how to read) in high school for me.
